Unfortunately, we are not able to convert your existing gas or electric water heater into a solar water heater. In order to work with solar panels, water heaters must be built specifically for that purpose. Therefore, if you are interested in using solar energy to heat your home’s water, you will need to purchase a new solar water heater.

How much you can save on a new solar water heater depends on how much hot water you use, how efficient your current water heater is and the number of sunny days you experience.
The cost of a solar water heater may be 2.5-3 times that of a regular water heater. But in sunny Florida, it can save you about $450-$600 per year. So, you’ll make up the difference in just 3-4 years, which amounts to a 25% annual return on average.
One of the shortcomings of solar energy is that it only works when the sun is out. Although that’s most days here, we do still get some cloudy days in Sarasota.
To combat this problem, solar water heaters have a built-in backup heater for just these occasions. So, no matter what the weather is, you’ll be able to get hot water.
